Hello 30

Monday was my actual birthday, but the celebration started on Saturday. My friends and family blessed me beyond belief. I am a very lucky girl!

I sort of feel like I have an opportunity for a fresh beginning. Moving on from the struggles and insecurities that I tend to hold on to far too long, and focus more on loving and serving others.

The Lord has always made me aware and called me to be an encourager, but I want to grow in that even more.

Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.  Ephesians 4:29

I don't just want to say encouraging words, I want to avoid any talk that could possibly offend or put someone down.

This was brought about by unintentional insensitive words spoken to me about my lack of physical triumphs and age, not things that would normally bother me, but with all the emotional and physical changes from having a baby, the things said brought me down. But the Lord being so gracious, used it to bring to my attention how as a Christ follower my words really do need to be guarded if I want to truly be a light. Even jokes or questions can bring a person down.

Set a guard over my mouth, Lordkeep watch over the door of my lips.   Psalm 141:3

My boys and I repeat this verse over and over everyday. Every time an unkind or unloving thing is said, we remind ourselves of it.

This also means for me not to let fear rule and let my shyness stop me from building others up with words.

I am excited to be more intentional about being joyful and being an encourager and light! Here's to 30 and working hard to show the world who Christ really is and to share his love!

Birthday Weekend

I had a blast celebrating my 30th birthday last night. We did karaoke with friends and everyone participated. I even sang a duet with my husband. My actual birthday isn't until Monday, but this weekend has set it off with a bang! I am beyond blessed in soooooo many ways!

Happy Weekend!

My Lara Bars

My boys love Clif Zbars! A couple of years ago friends of mine started making their own Lara Bars. I decided to try it and see if my boys liked them. Well it was super easy and my boys love them!

They only require 3 ingredients
3/4 C Dates
3/4 C Dried Fruit of choice (today I used dried apricots, but the options are endless, sometimes I just use      raisins)
1 C Whole Raw Almonds (or cashews, or walnuts, etc.)
*This makes about 16 small bars*

First I put the dates and dried fruit in the food processor and pulse until it forms a ball.

Then put the fruit mixture in a separate bowl. Without cleaning out the processor pulse the almonds, until finely chopped.

Add nuts to the fruit mixture and squish (technical term) to combine and make a ball. Then place ball between plastic wrap.

Flatten out to desired bar thickness and cut in bars, bite size squares, or roll into bite size balls. Again, the possibilities are endless.

I individually wrap mine into single serving snack size plastic bags, but as long as they are in an air tight container they will be fine. Store in the fridge.

These bars are so filling and sometimes my boys request these as a main dish for lunch. It takes about 10 min from start to finish. Since they are no bake they are ready to eat right away, which works well for me. This is my first recipe sharing, so hope it makes sense, ha!
